Sarah Blair
My name is Sarah Blair, and I am a woman in long term recovery from drug and alcohol addiction since September 9 th , 2016. Throughout my journey in a 12-step program I have found the gifts of recovery to be so much more than just abstinence from drugs and alcohol.
I have had the opportunity to work in the field of recovery for 2 years as an Outreach Coordinator for Oxford House Inc., a 501-c3 non-profit organization that provides sober living homes across the country. This job provided me with the strong foundation needed to begin expanding into working one on one with others and pursuing the education needed for addiction counseling.
My experience working in recovery has allowed me the chance to be on the front lines of the fight against addiction, working with hundreds of men and women over the years. I spent much of my time there learning how to facilitate conflict resolution, and teaching others how to effectively communicate with one another in order to function as a team.
I was able to open new homes with various investors and landlords, educate the residents on how to stand on their own and operate the houses themselves, and acted as a liaison between the houses, parole/probation, and various treatment facilities in order to help people find a new way of life.
Living and working in a women’s sober living environment allowed me the position to assist the women in navigating through their own personal recovery, as well as working through the challenges that life on life’s terms presents.
My passion and purpose has been found working one on one with others, and it brings me great joy to be able to guide others out of their own darkness and to empower them to pursue a life worth living. I can empathize with all variances of people, and I understand the behavior that drives us. Since finding my way out of the despair of addiction I am highly motivated to be the hand that reaches down and pulls others out of theirs.
I am all too familiar with the chaos that our addictions create in our lives, and I know how to meet that chaos face to face with a sense of calm, and a firm yet compassionate point of view.
